Run by a family of Rathores, the Umaid Bhawan is built in traditional Rajput style and is
approximately half a mile from the central bus stand (Sindhi Camp) and eight miles from the
airport. Umaid Bhawan is located in a residential colony in Jaipur, right next to the national
capital, New Delhi. Though the Pink City label applies specifically to the old walled quarter
of the Rajasthani capital, in the northeast of town, palaces and temples, in an assortment of
styles that span the centuries, are scattered throughout the whole urban area.
